A Western piece from the pen of Frank Bellamy. I can almost hear the Ennio Morricone soundtrack on this one. I love the pen work for the hands on the final page. This originally appeared in the first issue of Ally Sloper magazine in 1976. FB had specially drawn this strip for the magazine. It must have been one of the last full strips he drew. By the time it saw print, he was gone.

It was indeed his last strip!
ReplyDeleteA little realised fact is that the illustration accompanying Doctor Who that appeared in the
Radio Times of the 3rd of July 1976 (Doctor Who - The Planet of Evil) appeared on the very
day of his death! His last unfortunately.
Great blog!
Thanks Norman. I'll put a link to your site next time I have some Bellamy up here. Just noticed you have a Blog too:

I'll add you to my links section.
I am the proud owner of the original artwork to all three pages of Swade. They say a picture paints a thousand words...these simple but effective graphics are more powerful than any script.
ReplyDeleteHi Tony.
ReplyDeleteYou own ALL three? It'd be cool to view the original art. To see any vestiges of pencils and how he inked the pages.
Wow, I'm so jealous!
