Convention Booklet Illustrations

 Various convention booklet illustrations from the 70s and 80s. There's work by Brian Lewis, Jim Baikie, Dave Gibbons, Fred Holmes, Brian Bolland and Mike McMahon. The final illustration is interesting - it's by Bolland AND McMahon. I stripped the colour from it, so it's easier to read.

Dave Gibbons provides the cover for this Titan Books collection, released in 1983.

Dan Dare

Dave Gibbons draws Dan Dare for the May 5th 1979 issue of 2000AD. The strip went in a bit of a strange direction after the more traditional space adventures of earlier issues with DD becoming a kind of superhero. As far as I remember this storyline was never concluded.

A Night to Remember

Art by Dave Gibbons. Not sure of the date. It was part of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of 2000AD. This page made me chuckle. I did kinda lose interest in 2000AD when the painted art came in and everyone wanted to be like Simon Bisley. 

Arken Sword

Do I have to say who did the art? Arken Sword was a really cool zine that morphed into Ark, a pretty slick magazine back in the day. You can read some of the interview from this issue here.

Axel Pressbutton

Just realised that this is only the second piece of Dave Gibbons art in the blog. This is from December 1984. I see a Treen, a comics editor from Betelgeuse and a certain Dalek killer in the background. Lots of fun!
