 Treasury of British Comics

Thought I'd better do my bit to help promote (older) British comics. Check out Treasury of British Comics that's run by Rebellion, the publishers of 2000AD.

2000AD

Some original art by Brian Lewis for issue 75 of 2000AD, dated 29th July 1978. His Dredd looks a bit shonky, but I love how he rendered the combined Landraider/Killdozer vehicle. He would have been great for 2000AD, but he died in 1978 after only contributing a handful of covers for this and Starlord, plus a Dan Dare story.

Brian Bolland: The Apex edition

Coming soon in 2022, Brian Bolland: The Apex Edition, an oversize book featuring scans of his original artwork. Check the 2000AD website for details. It's interesting to see that Dredd's belt buckle has a patch over it.

Here's a panel detail from the Dredd story, Punks Rule from 2000AD issue 110 dated 28th April 1979.

2000AD Sci-Fi Special

A nice Mick McMahon cover for the 2019 2000AD Sci-Fi Special.

Hm, I don't know of many artists whose style has mutated so much from year-to-year. I'll have to do a page of comparisons at some point.

So, apparently this has already sold-out (Joe, you sell-out, you!). But, there's a paperback version coming out, so get saving those shekels/creds. Cover by Brian Bolland.

Ah, what the hell, some Mick McMahon art too:

Judge Dredd

Chris Weston's black and white art for the cover of 2000AD dated 9th July 2014. Insane detail (as usual!). This image 'borrowed' from the most excellent 2000AD Covers Uncovered site.

Droid Atlas

Yet another parody. This time care of the 16th September 1978 issue of 2000AD. Art by Brendan McCarthy.

Dan Dare

Dave Gibbons draws Dan Dare for the May 5th 1979 issue of 2000AD. The strip went in a bit of a strange direction after the more traditional space adventures of earlier issues with DD becoming a kind of superhero. As far as I remember this storyline was never concluded.

A Day in the Life of Trans-Time

Brian Bolland illustrates a page from Fleshfile, a mini-booklet printed within the pages of 2000AD circa 1979. Not sure of the date as my copy's missing it's cover.

I think this idea's screaming out to be made into a movie. Something over-the-top in the same vein as Syfy's Sharknado.

Judge Dredd

Bold cover art by Ron Smith circa November 1990.
