Cover art by Mike Dorey. I always felt a bit wary of the title 'Big Willi'. I think the editor's tongue was firmly in cheek with the 'Swing into action with Big Willi' by-line.... All it needs to push the strip completely over the edge is a character named, Fraulein Hooters. Ooo, misses, now then....
Ahem, I don't get out much.

WARLORD was a childhood favourite, but I'm sure that double entendre whizzed right over my head at the time.
ReplyDeleteI can assure you that it went over my head too.
ReplyDeleteIt was only on re-reading it a while back, when I had a: 'Ooo, look: Big Willi..... Hold on a minute!' moment.
I've spent most of my life thinking I imagined that. I'm not sure whether or not I'm glad its existence has been confirmed.
ReplyDeleteThis was the first issue of Warlord I ever had! Again, at the time the innuendo completely passed me by!
ReplyDeleteAs a punter, I always like the use of block colours by DC Thomson, mostly in the annuals, but also with some of the covers, like this one.
